To err is human... The following is an errata list for the original (paper)
edition of PNG: The
Definitive Guide. All of these errors have been corrected in
the online version of July 2003.
page 37, BeOS paragraph: "R4.1" should be "R4.5" (two instances),
and "NetPositive 3.0" should be "NetPositive 2.1"
page 85, xart paragraph: the URL has changed; the following two
are the nearest replacements:
page 85, XPaint paragraph: the URL has changed to:

page 89, first paragraph after the output listing: the second
clause of the second-to-last sentence should read, "the only loss of
information it intentionally allows is the explicit removal or
replacement of chunks at the user's direction, though a limitation in
current versions of the PNG reference library also causes the accidental
deletion of unknown, safe-to-copy chunks."
page 112, third paragraph: "3Dfx Voodoo Rush<enbased card"
should instead read "3Dfx Voodoo Rush-based card"
page 152, fourth paragraph: "the full zlib and deflate
specifications are included in Appendixes D and E, respectively" should
instead read "the full zlib and deflate specifications are available
from http://www.zlib.org/zlib_docs.html"
page 157, first paragraph: the parenthetical should read, "(This
problem seems to have been fixed in more recent versions, but even
current versions include 160 bytes' worth of text and background chunks
per image.)"
page 191, second and fourth lines of Table 11-5: the valid
ranges should read, "(positive floating-point)"
page 192, fourth line of Table 11-7: the subscript "10" should
instead be "1" (i.e., "X sub 1," not "X sub 10")
page 289: insert "Chapter 5" heading and new reference:

In addition, there are quite a number of individuals mentioned in the book
(particularly in Chapter 7) who do not appear in the original index. This was
not intentional; the index was the very last thing to be prepared, and in the
final few days before the book went to the printer, there was only so much
time to make changes and request additions. Greg has filled it out somewhat
since then, but listing all of the indexing changes on this page would be
too tedious.
