News and History of the PNG Development Group from 2009
Herein lie news items and historical stuff primarily of interest to the
Portable Network Graphics Development Group itself. Feel free to poke
around even if you're not a member, though. Note that some of the links,
particularly the older ones, are broken; in some cases this is explained by
later entries. Other links (CompuServe, tcg.arl.mil) have fallen prey to
reorganizations or upgrades; should they ever reappear, the entries below
will be updated as needed.
Keep in mind that this is history here...
- current - see here
- 3 December 2009 - libpng 1.2.41 is
released with cleanups, a new xcode build setup, and a minor performance
improvement (avoid building 16-bit gamma tables when not needed). Some
new warnings designed to aid porting to the upcoming libpng 1.4.x can be
enabled by defining PNG_PEDANTIC_WARNINGS.
- 10 September 2009 - libpng 1.2.40 is
released with a minor fix for unknown-chunk support and better CMake
support. Note that, other than possible security fixes, this is
intended to be the final release of the 1.2 series.
- 13 August 2009 - libpng 1.2.39 is
released with more minor updates to the build system, a public
prototype for png_64bit_product(), and slightly stricter iCCP-write
support. A .tar.xz package replaces the .tar.lzma package on
SourceForge and the .tar.bz2 link here.
- 16 July 2009 - libpng 1.2.38 is
released with minor updates to the build system and unknown-chunk
support.
- 4 June 2009 - libpng 1.2.37 is
released with a fix for 1.2.36's fix for a small (7-bit)
uninitialized-memory read,
plus various documentation, example.c, and cosmetic fixes.
- 7 May 2009 - libpng 1.2.36 is
released (but not announced...) with a fix for a small (7-bit)
uninitialized-memory read,
a possible memory leak when writing the iCCP (ICC profile) chunk,
and some other minor fixes.
- 18 February 2009 - libpng 1.2.35 is
released with a fix for a longstanding
uninitialized-data bug involving
arrays of pointers
(CVE-2009-0040).
